The sun’s staying out longer and the temps are starting to rise. Spring has arrived and it’s time to give your wardrobe a refresh. Whether it’s a full-blown trend or a few stylish staples, here are the five style ideas you need to know about this spring.

Athleisure is no longer a trend, it’s a clothing movement and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. And to get in the game, there’s no easier way than to pick up a fresh pair of sneakers. Last year was the year of the white sneaker, and they’re still a classic go-to. The options are endless but some of the sleekest come from Adidas and Greats. If you’re looking for something a little out of the box, try an exciting color combination from New Balance that’s neutral enough to be paired with anything you’ll wear this season. And don’t forget high tops. Yep, high tops are back in a big way so dust off your old Vans or Converse.

Straighter, Shorter Pants

If you’ve waiting for the day for super skinny pants to make their exit, you won’t have to wait much longer. Skinny is on the downward spiral (although they may always have a place in the style world) and straighter styles are making a comeback. Baggier pants are back in but something key to note is that they should still be tailored and can have a slight taper. They’re loose, but not messy. There are some great options offered by Mango and J.Crew (the masters of the classic chino). For the truly stylish, cuff or crop your pants to show off that ankle.

Muted Colors

Pastels for spring might not sound groundbreaking but it’s a definite trend this year. No matter what item you want to add to your wardrobe, you’ll find it available in a faded pastel. Muted pinks, soft lavenders and faded greens are great colors that work on most. Incorporate pastels into your tees and button up shirts. Or kill two birds with one stone and pick up a pair of pastel sneakers like these from Nike.

Denim Layering Pieces

It’s hard to label denim as a trend because it never really leaves. But layering with chambray and denim is something you need to be doing this spring. If you don’t have a denim jacket, where the heck have you been? Every retailer has one, but pick one that will go with anything; one that can be worn casually and dressed up. Chambray shirts are great for year-round wear and you’ll get your money back in a month if you invest in a quality one. Layer it over a tee or dress it up under a suit for a wedding. Chambray and denim layering pieces are truly some of the most versatile pieces you can buy.

Baseball Caps

Baseball caps are a great way to protect yourself from the sun. But this spring baseball caps actually deserve a stylish space in your wardrobe. Classic styles like a sun-faded baseball cap are great for pairing with shorts and a tee. Or upgrade the classic with a faux suede version for a sleeker look. Or Plus, you don’t have to worry about your hair that day so they’re timesavers too.
